Chair of The HSNC Trustees Dorian Mead visited Ian Minshull, one of the founders of the Centre. Ian was instrumental in introducing animals to HSNC back in the 1980’s. Ian has now retired to the edge of  artmoor and still has his pet sheep. Dorian took along a couple of the wonderful melons grown at the Centre this summer.

Our activities, tailored to individual abilities, include feeding, grooming, cleaning, mucking out, egg collection, duck pond maintenance, ‘poo picking’ in fields and arenas, and upkeep of three purpose-built muck heap areas.

Gardening and horticulture

Cultivate a variety of vegetables and plants in our expansive polytunnel and a large vegetable garden featuring raised beds. These activities, adjusted for different abilities, involve digging, planting, composting, weeding, watering, harvesting, and grass cutting, which are all integral parts of nurturing a garden. Participants can delight in the full cycle of growth, from seed to harvest.
